I am very happy to announce the first testing version of ownCloud Client
1.7.0, which is called alpha 1. It is _not_ supposed to be a _big_
public release, but a test release for ownCloud specialists and developers.
The most visible feature is the introduction of overlay icons in Windows
Explorer, Mac Finder and Nautilus on Linux which show the sync state of
the files. To make that happen, we did not only have to write
significant amounts of native code for all platforms using toolkits we
never worked with before, but we also had to do big changes under the
motorhead to deal with the file permissions which are sent from oC
Server since version 7 and tweak the installers dramatically and
implement a socket server within oCC and ...
All in all 1.7.0 will be a very big release, and therefore we need as
much testing as ever possible. Even though we still have a couple of
known bugs we decided to go for this alpha release now to make it easier
to help testing.
Always said, but especially true today: Please make sure to use this
release ONLY with test installation and not with your production data.
It may eat your kitten ;-)
As usual, please report bugs in github/owncloud/mirall and put the
version into the header like [1.7.0 alpha1].
If you install from the sources below, you should see overlay icons in
Finder on MacOSX and Explorer on Windows. For Linux, please install the
package owncloud-client-nautilus and restart nautilus (nautilus -q).
- After installation, Explorer might need a restart through TaskManager
to make the icons visible.
- Uninstaller does not remove
simply remove it manually if Finder goes wild and than killall finder.
It will restart automatically.
- Installer icon is not nice yet. Volunteers?
- The package misses the build number
- onwCloud Client has to be started before nautilus
- no dolphin support so far
